Ingredients

Puff Pastry

  • 12 sheets of puff pastry (JusRol Vegan + Gluten-free Puff Pastry recommended)

Filling

  • 130g dairy-free cream cheese
  • 15g gluten-free or plain flour (based on preference)
  • 15g caster sugar plus extra for sprinkling
  • 4 tablespoons dairy-free milk

Topping

  • Fresh strawberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 180°C fan and prepare two large baking trays by lining them with greaseproof paper.
  2. Prepare the puff pastry: Unroll the puff pastry sheets on their baking paper to avoid sticking. Smooth out wrinkles using a rolling pin and dust with plain flour if the pastry sticks.
  3. Cut the pastry shapes: Use a large heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes and place them on the baking trays. Press a smaller heart-shaped cutter gently into the center of each piece to create an indentation without cutting through.
  4. Make the cream cheese filling: In a bowl, combine dairy-free cream cheese, flour, and sugar until thick and creamy. Transfer this mixture into a piping bag; alternatively use a spoon if unavailable.
  5. Add topping: Slice fresh strawberries and place a few slices on top of the cream cheese filling on each pastry heart.
  6. Brush and sprinkle: Brush the edges of the pastry with dairy-free milk and sprinkle with extra sugar to promote browning during baking.
  7. Bake the pastries: Bake the pastries in the oven for 10-15 minutes or until they turn golden brown and flaky. Remove the tray once done, and bake the next batch.
  8. Cool and serve: Allow the Danish to cool slightly before serving, optionally dusting with icing sugar for extra sweetness and presentation.
