These Tuna Patties are a quick and flavorful seafood dish using fresh ahi tuna, lightly seasoned and pan-fried to a perfect golden crust. The patties are tender and moist inside, infused with fresh lime and Old Bay seasoning, served with a zesty homemade tuna sauce for an easy yet elegant meal.

Ingredients

Tuna Patties

  • 8 oz fresh ahi tuna, diced into 1/4 inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup club cracker crumbs
  • 1 tbsp Old Bay seafood seasoning
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of pepper
  • 1 egg, scrambled
  • 1 tsp fresh cilantro, crushed
  • Fresh lime juice from 1 lime wedge
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Tuna Sauce

  • 1/4 cup cocktail sauce
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp fresh lime juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tuna: Dice fresh ahi tuna into 1/4 inch pieces and place into a mixing bowl to ensure even size for patties.
  2. Add Lime and Seasonings: Squeeze juice from one fresh lime wedge over the tuna. Season with a pinch of salt, pepper, and add Old Bay seafood seasoning. Mix gently to combine flavors.
  3. Prepare Cracker Mixture: Crush club crackers and combine with fresh cilantro until you achieve an oatmeal-like texture with some larger crumbs remaining for texture.
  4. Mix Egg: In a separate bowl, scramble the egg thoroughly and then add it to the bowl with the tuna and seasonings.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Add the crushed cracker and cilantro mixture to the tuna and egg mixture. Mix everything together well. The mixture will appear wet, but the cracker crumbs will absorb the liquid as it rests.
  6. Chill Mixture: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the mixture for at least 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the crackers to absorb moisture.
  7. Preheat Pan: Heat a sauté pan over medium-high heat and add one tablespoon of olive oil, ensuring it coats the pan evenly.
  8. Shape Patties: Divide the tuna mixture into three equal portions. Form each into a ball, then gently flatten both the top and bottom to create patties.
  9. Cook Patties: Place the patties in the hot sauté pan. Cook over medium-high heat for about 2 minutes on one side, then carefully flip and cook for another 2 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  10. Prepare Sauce: While patties are cooking, combine cocktail sauce, mayonnaise, and fresh lime juice in a small bowl. Mix until smooth and set aside.
  11. Serve: Plate the tuna patties, serve with fresh lime wedges and drizzle with the prepared tuna sauce for a refreshing and flavorful finish.

Notes

  • Use fresh ahi tuna for the best texture and flavor.
  • Adjust Old Bay seasoning to taste if you prefer more or less spice.
  • Letting the patties rest in the fridge is essential for binding and flavor development.
  • If desired, substitute club crackers with gluten-free crumbs to make the recipe gluten free.
  • Serve immediately for optimal crispness of patties.
