A delightful Peppermint Mocha recipe combining rich espresso, creamy steamed milk, peppermint extract, and chocolate syrup, topped with whipped cream for a festive and comforting coffeehouse treat you can make at home in just 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Espresso Base

  • 1 shot espresso

Milk Mixture

  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup (or hot chocolate mix)

Topping

  • ½ cup whipped cream
  • Additional chocolate syrup for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mug: Add the peppermint extract and chocolate syrup to your mug, placing most at the bottom to mix well with the hot espresso. You may also drizzle some syrup up the mug’s sides. If using hot chocolate mix instead, mix it with the hot milk during heating.
  2. Brew the espresso: Make one shot of espresso and pour it into the prepared mug with the peppermint and chocolate mixture.
  3. Steam and froth the milk: Heat and froth the milk until hot and foamy. Use a steam wand on your espresso machine if available, or heat then froth the milk manually or with a frother. Add any hot chocolate mix to the milk during this step if used.
  4. Combine milk with espresso: Pour the hot, steamed milk into the mug over the espresso and chocolate mixture. The milk foam will naturally rise to the top, creating a creamy layer.
  5. Add toppings: Generously top the drink with whipped cream and drizzle additional chocolate syrup or garnish as desired for an extra festive touch.

Notes

  • If you don’t have an espresso machine, strong brewed coffee or an espresso pod works as a substitute.
  • Adjust peppermint extract to taste; start with ½ teaspoon for mild flavor.
  • Use whole milk for a creamier texture or any milk alternative to suit dietary preferences.
  • Whipped cream can be homemade or store-bought.
  • To make this vegan, use plant-based milk and a dairy-free whipped topping.
