Ingredients

Ingredients for Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars

  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (preferably unsalted with peanuts as the only ingredient)
  • 1/2 cup honey (avoid honey for children under 1 year)
  • 4 cups plain Cheerios

Instructions

  1. Melt Peanut Butter and Honey: In a microwave-safe dish, combine the peanut butter and honey, then microwave for about 30 seconds until the mixture becomes liquid. Alternatively, you can melt the mixture on the stove over low heat.
  2. Mix in Cheerios: Add the 4 cups of plain Cheerios to the melted peanut butter and honey mixture and stir well until all the cereal is evenly coated.
  3. Press into Pan: Line an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9-inch square dish with parchment paper or use a cookie sheet, then pour and flatten the mixture evenly into the pan.
  4. Refrigerate and Set: Place the dish in the refrigerator and let it chill until the bars harden, which usually takes about 1 hour.
  5. Slice and Store: Once firm, slice into bars of desired size and store them covered in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • Use unsalted peanut butter with minimal ingredients for a cleaner taste and less sodium.
  • Do not give honey to children under 1 year due to risk of botulism.
  • These bars can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge for several days.
  • You can substitute Cheerios with another plain cereal if desired.
  • For a nut-free version, consider using sunflower seed butter instead of peanut butter.
