This No-Oven Turkish Bread is a soft, homemade flatbread made effortlessly on the stovetop. With a tender crumb and golden crust, it’s perfect for serving warm alongside dips, soups, or as a wrap. The bread is flavored with olive oil and can be topped with garlic butter, sesame seeds, and fresh herbs, making it a versatile and easy bread recipe without the need for an oven.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • ¾ cup (180ml) warm milk
  • ½ cup (120ml) warm water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter

Topping

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley or cilantro

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients. In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and instant yeast. Mix well to evenly distribute all the dry components.
  2. Add wet ingredients and knead. Slowly pour in the warm milk, warm water, and olive oil while mixing. Once the dough begins to form, knead it for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Let dough rise. Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl. Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and allow it to rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  4. Divide and shape dough. After rising, divide the dough into six equal portions. Roll each portion into a round, flat disk approximately ¼-inch thick.
  5. Cook on skillet. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook each flatbread for 2–3 minutes on one side until bubbles form, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes until golden brown on both sides.
  6. Apply toppings. While the bread is still warm, brush with melted butter mixed with minced garlic if using. Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped fresh parsley or cilantro on top before serving.

Notes

  • Use bread flour instead of all-purpose flour for a chewier texture.
  • Store any leftover bread in an airtight container for up to two days to maintain freshness.
  • You can freeze raw dough for later use; simply thaw and cook when ready.
  • Serve the bread warm with your favorite dips, soups, or use as a wrap for sandwiches.
