These Mini Spider Pizzas are a fun and festive snack perfect for Halloween or any party. Featuring a flavorful homemade tomato sauce blend and topped with mozzarella cheese and olive ‘spiders,’ these bite-sized pizzas are easy to make and sure to delight both kids and adults with their creative presentation.

Ingredients

Pizza Base

  • 1 pound pizza dough

Tomato Sauce

  • 15 ounces tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar

Toppings

  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 ounces pitted large black olives

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450° F (232° C) and lightly spray a baking sheet with cooking spray to prevent the pizzas from sticking.
  2. Prepare Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a clean surface and use a 3-inch round cookie cutter to cut out mini pizza circles. Place these dough rounds on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly.
  3. Make Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together tomato sauce, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, dried parsley, garlic powder, optional red pepper flakes, and balsamic vinegar until well combined. Spread a thin layer of this sauce mixture evenly over each mini pizza round.
  4. Add Cheese and Bake: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the sauce on each mini pizza. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for about 8 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbly, and the crust edges turn golden brown.
  5. Create Olive Spiders: Remove the mini pizzas from the oven and immediately arrange the pitted large black olives on top to resemble spiders. Use whole olives for the bodies and sliced olives to fashion legs, making the pizzas both delicious and decorative.

Notes

  • If desired, substitute the dried herbs with fresh herbs for a brighter flavor.
  • Use a small sharp knife to slice olives into ‘legs’ carefully for the spider effect.
  • These mini pizzas can be prepared ahead by assembling and refrigerating, then baking before serving.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, substitute the pizza dough with a gluten-free crust.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
