A refreshing and tangy lemon frozen yogurt made with creamy Greek yogurt, zesty lemon juice, and a hint of turmeric for color. This easy-to-make frozen treat can be prepared with or without an ice cream maker, perfect for a light and healthy dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Frozen Yogurt Base

  • 2 cups vanilla Greek yogurt (or dairy free alternative)
  • 1/3 cup sugar (or sweetener of choice)
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon zest (from 1 lemon)
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric (optional, or a few drops of food coloring for brighter color)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large measuring cup or mixing bowl, whisk together the vanilla Greek yogurt, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, and turmeric until smooth and well blended.
  2. Churn the Mixture (Optional): If you have an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into the chilled machine and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.
  3. Freeze without Ice Cream Maker: If not using an ice cream maker, pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze until solid, approximately 4-6 hours or overnight.
  4. Blend Frozen Cubes: Once frozen, remove enough cubes to fit in a blender or food processor. Let the cubes thaw slightly for a few minutes so the blender can handle them smoothly, then blend until creamy and smooth.
  5. Serve: Scoop the blended lemon frozen yogurt into bowls or cones, serve immediately, and enjoy the bright, tangy flavor.
  6. Storage: Freeze any remaining frozen yogurt in an airtight container and allow it to soften slightly before serving again.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, substitute vanilla Greek yogurt with your favorite plant-based yogurt.
  • Adjust the sweetness by using more or less sugar or alternative sweeteners like honey, agave, or stevia.
  • The turmeric is optional and used to give a natural yellow tint; you can skip it or use food coloring if desired.
  • When blending frozen cubes, allow them to thaw just enough to prevent the blender from overheating or getting stuck.
  • If you have an ice cream maker, it yields a smoother texture and requires less blending time.
