This homemade vanilla latte recipe is a quick and delightful way to enjoy a café-style vanilla latte in just 5 minutes. With a simple homemade vanilla syrup and easy frothing technique using a mason jar, this drink combines rich espresso, creamy steamed milk, and sweet vanilla flavor for a perfect morning or afternoon treat.

Ingredients

Vanilla Syrup

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ tablespoon vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)

Latte

  • 3 ounces espresso (2 shots) or ½ cup strong coffee
  • 6 ounces whole milk (or milk of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla syrup

Instructions

  1. Make Vanilla Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and stir occasionally until the sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract. Use the syrup immediately or allow it to cool and store in a jar in the fridge until needed.
  2. Brew Coffee: Brew 3 ounces of espresso (approximately 2 shots) or prepare ½ cup of strong coffee according to your preference.
  3. Heat and Froth Milk: Pour 6 ounces of whole milk (or your milk of choice) into a mason jar and microwave for about 1½ minutes until hot but not boiling. If necessary, continue heating in 30-second increments up to an additional minute. Carefully remove the jar using a towel or potholder as it will be hot.
  4. Add Vanilla Syrup and Froth: Add 2 tablespoons of the prepared vanilla syrup to the hot milk in the jar. Secure the lid tightly and shake the jar vigorously for 30 seconds to 1 minute to create froth. Alternatively, you may use a milk frother or whisk for frothing as noted.
  5. Assemble Latte: Carefully remove the lid, being cautious of any built-up pressure. Pour the frothed milk over the brewed espresso, spooning any remaining foam on top. Serve immediately, optionally topped with whipped cream for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • For frothing, if you do not have a mason jar, a handheld milk frother or whisk can be used to create foam.
  • You can store the vanilla syrup in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
  • Adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of vanilla syrup according to your taste preference.
  • Use any type of milk such as almond, oat, or soy milk as a dairy-free alternative.
