This Homemade Berry Frozen Yogurt is a creamy, refreshing treat perfect for warm days or any time you crave a cool dessert. Made with whole plain yogurt, fresh or frozen berries, and a touch of sweetness, this recipe is churned in an ice cream maker for a smooth, soft-serve texture that can be enjoyed immediately or frozen for a firmer consistency.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole plain yogurt (cold from the fridge)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup heavy/whole/whipping cream (at least 30% fat, cold from the fridge)
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • ¾ cup fine fruit sugar
  • 1 cup berries (fresh or frozen, if frozen do not thaw, coarsely crushed)

Instructions

  1. Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the cold whole plain yogurt, vanilla extract, cold heavy cream, corn syrup, and fine sugar for about 2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and the sugar is well incorporated. Then gently fold in the coarsely crushed berries to maintain some texture.
  2. Churn the Mixture: Pour the prepared mixture into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions until the frozen yogurt thickens to the consistency of soft-serve ice cream. This usually takes around 20-30 minutes.
  3. Freeze to Firm Up (Optional): You can enjoy the frozen yogurt immediately for a soft-serve texture or transfer it to a lidded container and freeze for 3 to 6 hours or overnight if you prefer a firmer, scoopable consistency.
  4. Serve: When ready to serve, remove the frozen yogurt from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes to soften slightly for easier scooping. Enjoy your homemade berry frozen yogurt!
  5. Tip: Be sure to read and follow your ice cream maker’s instructions before use to ensure optimal results.

Notes

  • Use cold ingredients directly from the fridge to ensure the mixture freezes properly and churns well.
  • If using frozen berries, do not thaw them before adding to maintain texture and prevent excess liquid.
  • Adjust sugar to taste depending on the sweetness of your berries.
  • For a lighter version, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or reduce the cream amount, but note texture changes.
  • If you don’t have an ice cream maker, you can freeze the mixture in a container and manually stir every 30 minutes until smooth, but texture will differ.
