Moist and rich chocolate brownies are topped with creamy chocolate frosting, European-style biscuit sandwich cookies decorated as tombstones, and cute candy ghosts, creating a fun and festive dessert everyone will love.

Ingredients

Brownie Batter

  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Adams vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Toppings

  • 8 oz chocolate frosting
  • 12 European-style biscuit sandwich cookies
  • 12 Wilton candy ghosts
  • Black edible marker

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9 inch square baking pan with parchment paper and set it aside to prepare for the batter.
  2. Melt Butter: Place a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat. Add the unsalted butter and let it melt completely, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
  3. Add Sugar, Vanilla, and Cocoa: To the melted butter, add the granulated sugar and vanilla extract. Whisk well to combine. Then gradually whisk in the unsweetened cocoa powder, ensuring the mixture is smooth. Remove the pan from heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes.
  4. Incorporate Eggs: Add the eggs one at a time into the cooled mixture, whisking thoroughly after each egg until fully blended and smooth.
  5. Mix in Dry Ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour and salt to the wet ingredients. Stir gently but thoroughly to combine. Avoid stirring too fast or vigorously to prevent incorporating excess air which can alter the texture.
  6. Pour Batter and Bake: Pour the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Cool the Brownies: Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, carefully lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper.
  8. Frost and Cut: Spread chocolate frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Using a sharp knife, cut the brownies into 16 squares.
  9. Decorate with Tombstones and Ghosts: Take each European-style biscuit sandwich cookie and cut off one curved end to create a flat base. Use the black edible marker to write “R.I.P.” on one side of each cookie. Stand each cookie cut-side down into the center of each brownie square to look like a tombstone. Complete the haunted graveyard look by placing a Wilton candy ghost on each brownie. Serve immediately and enjoy!
