These Halloween Chocolate Chip Cookies are a festive twist on classic chocolate chip cookies, featuring colorful Halloween sprinkles and optional candy eyes for a spooky touch. Soft, chewy, and loaded with chocolate chips, these cookies are perfect for holiday parties or seasonal treats. The dough is chilled before baking to enhance flavor and texture, resulting in perfectly golden-edged cookies every time.

Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar (67 g)
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar (100 g)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled, 186 g)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Add-ins

  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 1/23/4 cup Halloween sprinkles
  • Candy eyes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Mix wet ingredients: Add the melted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar to a mixing bowl. Stir until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  2. Add egg and vanilla: Mix in the vanilla extract and the large egg until well incorporated, ensuring the batter is smooth.
  3. Combine dry ingredients: Add the all-purpose flour, salt, and baking soda to the mixture. Mix on low speed until it starts to come together, then increase speed and mix for an additional 15-30 seconds until smooth. Scrape down the sides as necessary to fully incorporate ingredients without over-mixing.
  4. Fold in add-ins: Gently fold in the Halloween sprinkles and chocolate chips using a spatula or large spoon, distributing them evenly throughout the dough.
  5. Portion dough: Scoop 2 tablespoon-sized balls of dough and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. The spacing does not matter at this stage as you will chill the dough.
  6. Chill dough: Cover the dough balls with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1.5 to 2 hours, or up to 24 hours, to allow the dough to firm up and develop flavor.
  7. Preheat oven: When ready to bake, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Prepare for baking: Arrange the chilled dough balls on a parchment-lined or silicone baking mat baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake cookies: Bake in the preheated oven for 11-13 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are set.
  10. Add candy eyes: If using candy eyes, press them gently onto the warm cookies immediately upon removal from the oven so they adhere properly.
  11. Cool and serve: Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before enjoying your festive Halloween treat.
