This Halloween Buffalo Chicken Dip is a spooky and delicious appetizer perfect for fall gatherings and Halloween parties. Featuring a creamy, spicy buffalo chicken base topped with melted cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, this dip is baked to bubbly perfection. It’s creatively decorated with celery stalk ‘trees,’ crispy tortilla ‘gravestones,’ and mini tomatoes to resemble a haunted graveyard scene, making it both festive and flavorful.

Ingredients

Gravestone Tortillas

  • 2 flour tortillas (burrito size)

Buffalo Chicken Dip

  • 2 cans chunk chicken, drained
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup Buffalo sauce or hot sauce
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Decorations

  • 6 celery stalks, cut to 3″ lengths with greenery left on top
  • ½ cup chopped green onion
  • ½ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 15 to 20 mini heirloom or cherry tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) to prepare for baking the tortilla gravestones and chicken dip.
  2. Cut Tortilla Gravestones: Using kitchen scissors, cut 10 or more gravestone-shaped pieces from the flour tortillas to create edible tombstones for decoration.
  3. Bake Tortilla Gravestones: Arrange the gravestone-shaped tortilla pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Remove and let cool.
  4. Prepare Dip Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained chicken, softened cream cheese, sour cream, Buffalo or hot sauce, and garlic powder. Use a fork to mix until everything is thoroughly combined.
  5. Add Cheese to Mix: Stir in half of the shredded cheddar cheese and half of the mozzarella cheese into the chicken mixture, ensuring even distribution throughout.
  6. Prepare Baking Dish: Lightly grease or spray a 9″x13″ rectangular baking dish to prevent sticking.
  7. Assemble Dip: Transfer the buffalo chicken mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly using a silicone spatula or the back of a spoon.
  8. Add Cheese Topping: Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the top of the dip layer.
  9. Bake the Dip: Bake the dip for 30-35 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. For the last 2-3 minutes, switch your oven to broiler mode to brown and slightly crisp the cheese topping.
  10. Cool Dip: Remove the dish from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before decorating.
  11. Decorate with Celery Trees: Insert the celery stalks upright into the baked dip, gently pushing them through the cheese layer and anchoring them into the bottom to resemble spooky trees.
  12. Place Tortilla Gravestones: Arrange the crispy tortilla gravestone pieces in small clusters of 2-3 around the celery trees to create a graveyard effect.
  13. Add Greens: Sprinkle the chopped green onions and chopped fresh cilantro over the entire dip to mimic scattered leaves and grass.
  14. Add Tomato Pumpkins: Nestle clusters of 2-3 mini heirloom or cherry tomatoes near the celery trees and tortilla gravestones to resemble pumpkins and gourds in the graveyard.
  15. Serve: Present your Halloween Buffalo Chicken Dip with additional celery sticks and tortilla chips for dipping.
