This Easy Peach Crumble (Crisp) recipe is a delightful dessert featuring ripe yellow peaches baked under a buttery, oat-based crumble topping. Perfect for summer or any time you crave a warm, comforting fruit dessert, it’s simple to prepare and serves eight. The combination of sweet and slightly tart peaches, cinnamon, and a crunchy topping makes it a family favorite, especially when served with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

Peach Filling

  • 68 ripe yellow peaches (about 800-1000g)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Crumble Topping

  • 2/3 cup all purpose flour (87g)
  • 2/3 cup old fashioned rolled oats (53g)
  • 1/2 cup white or light brown sugar (100g)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into cubes

Optional

  • 1/2 cup toasted chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) using a conventional bake setting without a fan. Lightly brush a 9 or 10-inch round skillet or pie dish with butter to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Peach Filling: Cut the peaches into thick slices, about 8-12 slices per peach depending on size. Gently toss these peach slices with brown sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon until evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make Crumble Topping: In a separate bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, sugar, and salt. Add the cold cubed butter and rub it into the dry ingredients using your hands or a pastry cutter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Be careful not to overmix or knead the mixture.
  4. Add Nuts: Evenly spread the toasted chopped walnuts over the peach filling if using.
  5. Assemble: Spread the crumble topping evenly over the peaches and walnuts. It’s fine if it looks rustic and uneven.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes. If the topping remains pale after 45 minutes, switch the oven setting to broil and broil for 2-3 minutes to develop a golden color. Watch carefully to avoid burning. If it browns too quickly, cover with aluminum foil.
  7. Rest and Serve: Remove from the oven and let the crumble rest for 15 minutes. Serve warm with plain unsweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra special touch.

Notes

  • Use ripe, but firm peaches for best texture and flavor.
  • Cold butter is essential to achieve a crumbly topping texture.
  • Broil carefully and watch closely to avoid burning the crumble topping.
  • The crumble can be served with whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or enjoyed plain.
  • For a nuttier flavor, toasting the walnuts before adding enhances their aroma.
