This Dill Pickle Cheese Ball is a creamy, tangy appetizer perfect for parties and gatherings. Made with cream cheese, cheddar, chopped dill pickles, and fresh dill, this flavorful cheese ball is coated with extra cheddar, dill, and lemon zest for added zest and texture. It’s an easy make-ahead dish that pairs wonderfully with crackers.

Ingredients

Cheeseball:

  • 16 ounces Cream Cheese – softened
  • 4 Tablespoons Sour Cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice
  • Salt and Pepper – to taste
  • 1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • 1½ Cups Chopped Dill Pickles
  • 2 Tablespoons Fresh Chopped Dill

Coating:

  • 1/2 Cup Shredded or Chopped Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Chopped Dill
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon Zest

Instructions

  1. Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: Using a hand mixer, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix for 1-2 minutes until the mixture is smooth and fluffy. Then stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, chopped dill pickles, and fresh chopped dill until evenly combined.
  2. Shape the Cheese Ball: Lay two long strips of plastic wrap on a flat surface in an ‘X’ shape. Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the center. Bring up the edges of the plastic wrap, twist, and tighten at the top to shape the mixture into a firm ball. Transfer the wrapped cheese ball to the refrigerator and chill for at least 2 hours until it firms up.
  3. Prepare Coating: On a flat surface, spread out the shredded or chopped cheddar cheese, fresh chopped dill, and lemon zest evenly. Unwrap the chilled cheese ball and gently roll it in the coating mixture until completely covered. Press the toppings into any uncovered spots to ensure an even coating.
  4. Serve: Transfer the coated cheese ball to a serving platter. Serve chilled with your favorite crackers or bread for dipping.

Notes

  • For best results, chill the cheese ball overnight to develop flavors and ensure it firms well.
  • You can substitute cheddar cheese with other flavorful cheeses like Monterey Jack or Gouda.
  • Use fresh dill for the best taste; dried dill will not provide the same vibrant flavor.
  • If you prefer a spicier cheese ball, add a dash of cayenne pepper or finely chopped jalapeños.
  • Wrap the cheese ball tightly to prevent air exposure and drying out.
  • Can be made a day ahead and kept refrigerated until serving.
