This easy and quick Chocolate Simple Syrup is a rich, velvety syrup made by combining granulated sugar, water, and unsweetened cocoa powder. Perfect for sweetening and flavoring coffee, cocktails, desserts, and beverages with a delicious chocolate twist. It cooks in just minutes on the stovetop and stores well in the fridge for up to two weeks.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water (240g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, sifted (30g)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients: Pour the granulated sugar, water, and sifted cocoa powder into a small saucepan.
  2. Heat mixture: Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until the mixture just starts to boil, which usually takes about 3 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat: Once boiling, remove the saucepan from the heat immediately to prevent burning.
  4. Cool syrup: Pour the syrup into a separate container or mason jar and allow it to cool to room temperature.
  5. Store properly: If not using immediately, store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • Stir continuously while heating to prevent the sugar or cocoa powder from burning or clumping.
  • Sift the cocoa powder beforehand to ensure a smooth syrup without lumps.
  • This syrup is versatile and can be used to sweeten coffee, cocktails, milkshakes, or drizzle over desserts.
  • Use clean, airtight containers such as mason jars for storage to maximize shelf life.
