Made with pre-made pizza dough and filled with savory mozzarella, pizza sauce, and your choice of toppings like sausage, pepperoni, and vegetables, these mini pizza skulls are perfect for Halloween parties or fun family dinners.

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 13 to 16 ounces of pre-made pizza dough

Pizza Sauce and Cheese

  • 3/4 to 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • About 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Toppings

  • About 8 ounces cooked sausage (for 6 pizza skulls)
  • About 6 ounces mini pepperoni (for 6 pizza skulls)
  • Sliced black olives
  • Chopped sliced chicken
  • Crumbled crispy beef
  • Mini Italian meatballs
  • Cooked corn kernels
  • Baby spinach
  • Fresh basil

For Serving

  • Marinara sauce for dipping
  • Chopped parsley or basil (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking tin: Spray the mini skull baking tin thoroughly with cooking spray to prevent sticking during baking.
  2. Roll out the dough: Lightly dust your counter with flour to prevent sticking. Roll, pat, or stretch the pre-made pizza dough to about 1/4 inch thickness and cut it into 6 rectangles. Shape doesn’t need to be perfect.
  3. Fill the dough: Place each dough rectangle into a skull-shaped cavity of the baking tin. Layer pizza sauce, shredded mozzarella, Parmesan cheese, and your choice of toppings inside. Add a small spoonful of pizza sauce on top of the fillings before sealing.
  4. Seal the pizza skulls: Fold the dough over the filling to create a pocket and carefully pinch the edges to seal tightly, preventing leakage during baking.
  5. Refrigerate: Place the filled skull pizza tray in the refrigerator to chill while you preheat the oven.
  6. Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (204 degrees Celsius) and allow it to reach temperature.
  7. Bake: Remove the tray from the refrigerator and bake the pizza skulls for 16 to 20 minutes, or until the dough turns a light golden brown. Adjust baking time if your dough requires.
  8. Cool and serve: Take the pizza skulls out of the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes. Carefully unmold them from the tin and serve warm with marinara sauce and a sprinkle of chopped parsley or fresh basil if desired.

Notes

  • Use cooking spray liberally in the skull molds to ensure easy removal.
  • If you don’t have skull-shaped molds, consider using other fun-shaped mini baking tins for a festive look.
  • Feel free to mix and match toppings to suit your tastes or dietary needs.
  • Watch the baking time closely, as pre-made dough thickness and brand can affect cooking duration.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven to maintain crispness.
