A quick and easy recipe for perfectly spiced and crispy air-fried frozen broccoli florets, seasoned with a flavorful blend of garlic, onion, cumin, and chili powder, finished with a garnish of toasted sesame and sunflower seeds. This healthy side dish delivers great texture and bold flavors in just 14 minutes.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 12 oz frozen broccoli florets
  • ½ medium onion, thinly sliced

Spices & Oil

  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp pure garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt

Garnish

  • Toasted sesame seeds (to taste)
  • Sunflower seeds (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the spice mix: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 tablespoon of ghee in the microwave. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 1 teaspoon salt, ¼ teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and 1 teaspoon ground cumin. Whisk the mixture well until fully combined.
  2. Coat frozen broccoli in the spice mix: Quickly add the frozen broccoli florets into the bowl with the spice mix. Toss and coat the florets thoroughly before the ghee solidifies. Some small chunks of ghee sticking to the broccoli are fine as they will melt during air frying and help infuse the flavors.
  3. Prepare the air fryer: Lightly brush the air fryer basket with some olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Air fry the broccoli: Transfer the spiced broccoli florets evenly into the air fryer basket or racks if using an oven-style air fryer. Set the temperature to 380°F (193°C) and cook for 10-12 minutes total. Halfway through, open the basket to flip the florets, swapping the outer ones with the center ones to ensure even cooking and prevent charring.
  5. Finish and serve: Once the broccoli is tender and crispy on the edges, transfer to a serving plate. Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and sunflower seeds for added crunch and nutty flavor. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use frozen broccoli florets straight from the freezer for best texture and flavor.
  • Be quick when tossing broccoli with the spice mix to prevent ghee from re-solidifying.
  • Flipping the broccoli halfway helps even cooking and prevents burning.
  • Adjust seasoning and chili powder according to heat preference.
  • Garnish with toasted seeds adds extra texture and nutrition.
