A classic, hearty 4-ingredient goulash recipe that is quick and easy to prepare, perfect for a comforting weeknight dinner. Elbow macaroni is combined with browned ground beef, sautéed onions, and creamy tomato soup to create a satisfying and flavorful one-pot meal.

Ingredients

Goulash Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
  • 1 to 1 1/4 pounds ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 (10.5 oz) cans condensed tomato soup
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the uncooked elbow macaroni and cook according to package directions until al dente. Drain well and return the macaroni to the pot.
  2. Brown the beef and onion: While the macaroni is cooking, heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion, cooking until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Add tomato soup and seasoning: To the beef and onion mixture, add the condensed tomato soup, along with a little salt and pepper to taste. Stir to combine and cook over medium heat until the soup is heated through.
  4. Combine macaroni and beef mixture: Add the beef and tomato soup mixture to the pot with the cooked macaroni. Stir well until everything is evenly combined. Adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed, then serve warm.

Notes

  • To save time, use pre-chopped onions or onion powder as a substitute.
  • For a richer flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or a dash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture.
  • If you prefer a creamier texture, stir in some shredded cheese before serving.
  • This dish freezes well; store leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months.
