This Easy Homemade Peach Cobbler is a classic dessert featuring sweet, juicy peaches topped with a buttery, golden biscuit crust. Perfectly spiced with cinnamon and balanced with a touch of lemon juice, this cobbler bakes to a bubbly, comforting finish that’s ideal for any occasion.

Ingredients

Peach Filling

  • 6 ripe peaches, sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp cold butter, diced
  • 34 tbsp milk
  • melted butter for brushing tops (about 1 tbsp)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare peach filling: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cornstarch. Toss gently to evenly coat the fruit and set aside to allow the flavors to meld and the peaches to release juice.
  2. Arrange peach mixture: Spread the peach mixture evenly into a 9-by-13-inch baking dish, distributing the fruit and juices so they start bubbling as the cobbler bakes.
  3. Make the biscuit topping: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the cold diced butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs, ensuring the butter pieces are still visible for a flaky texture.
  4. Form the dough: Gradually add the milk, one tablespoon at a time, stirring just until the dough comes together. The dough should be slightly sticky but not wet, so avoid overmixing.
  5. Top the peaches: Drop spoonfuls of the biscuit dough over the peach filling, spacing them so steam can escape during baking. Lightly brush the tops with melted butter to help achieve a golden brown crust.
  6. Bake and cool: Bake the cobbler for 30 to 35 minutes until the biscuit topping is golden and the peach filling is bubbling. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving, to let the juices thicken slightly.

Notes

  • Use ripe but firm peaches to prevent the filling from becoming too mushy.
  • If fresh peaches are not available, frozen peaches can be used but thaw and drain excess liquid before mixing.
  • Brush biscuit topping with additional sugar for extra crunch and sweetness if desired.
  • The baking dish size is important to ensure even cooking and proper thickness of both filling and topping.
  • Leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated before serving.
