Ingredients

Nut Filling:

  • 150 g pistachios, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Phyllo Layers:

  • 450 g phyllo dough (1618 sheets), thawed
  • 200 g unsalted butter, melted

Honey Syrup:

  • 240 ml water
  • 200 g granulated sugar
  • 180 ml honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Optional Topping:

  • Extra crushed pistachios, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep the Filling: Pulse walnuts and pistachios, then mix with sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Prepare the Phyllo: Cover thawed phyllo dough, brush baking dish, and preheat oven.
  3. Layer the Base: Lay phyllo sheets, buttering between each layer.
  4. Add Nuts: Sprinkle nut mixture over phyllo.
  5. Repeat Layers: Layer phyllo and nuts, ending with buttered phyllo.
  6. Cut Before Baking: Cut baklava into shapes.
  7. Bake: Bake until golden brown and crisp.
  8. Make Syrup: Cook water, sugar, honey, and lemon juice.
  9. Syrup Time: Pour warm syrup over hot baklava after baking.
  10. Let it Rest: Allow baklava to rest before serving.
