A refreshing and creamy Taro Milk Tea made with brewed green or black tea, sweetened with sugar, flavored with taro powder, and served with chewy tapioca pearls. This homemade bubble tea is chilled and perfect for a delightful single serving treat.

Ingredients

Tea Base

  • 1 cup boiling hot water
  • 1 green tea or black tea bag
  • ½ tablespoon sugar
  • 2 ½ tablespoons taro powder

Tapioca Pearls

  • ¼ cup quick cooking tapioca pearls

Milk

  • ¼ cup milk or dairy alternative such as soy milk or oat milk

Instructions

  1. Steep the tea and melt the sugar: Place the tea bag into 1 cup of boiling hot water. Stir in ½ tablespoon of sugar until it is fully dissolved. This forms the sweetened tea base.
  2. Add the taro powder: Stir 2 ½ tablespoons of taro powder into the hot sweetened tea until the powder is completely dissolved, creating a smooth taro-flavored drink.
  3. Chill the drink: Refrigerate the taro milk tea mixture for 2 to 3 hours until it is thoroughly cold and ready to be served chilled.
  4. Boil the tapioca pearls: Bring a small pot of water to a rolling boil. Add ¼ cup of quick cooking tapioca pearls. When the pearls float to the surface, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until they become soft and chewy.
  5. Drain and rinse the pearls: Drain the cooked tapioca pearls and rinse them under cold water until they cool down. Drain well to prevent them from sticking together.
  6. Assemble and serve: Remove the taro milk tea from the fridge and discard the tea bag. Pour the chilled taro tea into a serving cup, add ¼ cup of milk or your preferred dairy alternative, and stir. Add the cooled tapioca pearls on top and serve immediately for a refreshing bubble tea experience.
