Ingredients
For the Chicken Fried Steak:
4 beef cube steaks
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
2 large eggs
1/2 cup milk
Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Country Gravy:
1/4 cup pan drippings or butter
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
In a shallow dish, combine the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix well.
In another shallow dish, whisk together the eggs and milk.
Dredge each cube steak in the flour mixture, then dip into the egg mixture, and dredge again in the flour mixture. Ensure each steak is well-coated.
Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the steaks in batches, frying for 3-4 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
For the gravy, use the pan drippings (or melt butter) in the same skillet. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes to form a roux.
Gradually whisk in the milk, bringing the mixture to a simmer. Cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve hot with the creamy country gravy poured over the top.
