A flavorful shrimp marinade that balances sweet, spicy, and savory flavors, perfect for grilling or searing.

Ingredients

¼ cup olive oil

1 tablespoon honey (or brown sugar)

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon lime zest

½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt and black pepper to taste (usually ¼ teaspoon each)

Hot sauce to taste (optional)

1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, honey, garlic, parsley, paprika, lime zest, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. If desired, reserve a few tablespoons of the marinade for later use as a glaze or finishing sauce.
  2. Place the shrimp in a large zip-lock bag and pour the marinade over them. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 15 to 20 minutes, or up to 1 hour.
  3. Once ready to cook, drain the marinade from the shrimp and discard it.
  4. Grill or sauté the shrimp for 2-3 minutes per side, or until they turn pink and are cooked through.
  5. Transfer the cooked shrimp to a serving platter and squeeze fresh lime juice on top to finish.

Notes

  • Leftover shrimp can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat shrimp in a hot pan or microwave for a minute or two, but avoid overheating to prevent dryness.
  • Marinate the shrimp for at least 15-20 minutes for optimal flavor, or up to 1 hour for a stronger taste.
  • This marinade can be used for other types of seafood like fish, scallops, or lobster.
  • If serving for kids, reduce or omit the crushed red pepper flakes for a milder version.
  • The marinade can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
