Sfogliatelle are crispy and flaky Italian pastries filled with a delicious, creamy ricotta mixture, originating from the region of Campania.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter

Filling:

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk (for sealing the dough)

Instructions

  1. Dough Preparation: In a large bowl, combine the flour, butter, and a pinch of salt. Knead until smooth.
  2. Dough Shaping: Roll the dough out thinly and cut into rectangles.
  3. Filling Preparation: Mix ricotta, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to form the filling.
  4. Assembly: Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each rectangle, fold the dough over, and seal the edges with egg yolk.
  5. Baking: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
