This Sauteed Broccoli recipe delivers tender yet crisp broccoli florets, enhanced by a quick steam and a flavorful sauté with garlic and olive oil. Perfect as a nutritious and vibrant side dish, it combines simple, fresh ingredients with fast stovetop cooking for a deliciously healthy addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Broccoli

  • 1 pound fresh broccoli, cut into – to 2-inch-long florets
  • ¼ cup water

Seasoning & Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 small garlic cloves, sliced
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
  • Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

  1. Steam the Broccoli: Place the broccoli florets and ¼ cup of water in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Cover with a lid and cook until the broccoli turns bright green but remains crisp, approximately 2 minutes.
  2. Evaporate the Water: Remove the lid, increase the heat to high, and continue cooking until all the water has evaporated, about 1 minute.
  3. Sauté with Garlic and Seasonings: Lower the heat back to medium-high, add olive oil, garlic slices, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Stir frequently and sauté the broccoli for 2 to 4 minutes until tender and lightly browned in spots.
  4. Finish and Serve: Remove the skillet from heat, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the broccoli, and serve immediately to retain the vibrant flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Cut broccoli into uniform-sized florets for even cooking.
  • Adjust cooking time slightly for your preferred tenderness.
  • Lemon juice enhances the flavor but can be omitted if preferred.
  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor impact.
  • Serve promptly for optimal texture and taste.
