Royal Milk Tea is a rich and comforting Japanese-style tea made by simmering robust black tea with whole milk and a touch of sugar. This creamy, smooth beverage is perfect for tea lovers seeking a luxurious twist on their daily cup.

Ingredients

Tea Ingredients

  • 23 bags black tea (Assam, Darjeeling, or English Breakfast)
  • 1 cup water

Milk and Sweetener

  • 1½ cup whole milk
  • 12 teaspoon sugar (or more, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Boil Water and Brew Tea: In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Add the black tea bags and reduce the heat to a low simmer. Let the tea steep gently for 2 minutes to extract a robust flavor.
  2. Add Milk and Simmer: Pour 1½ cups of whole milk into the saucepan with the tea. Carefully watch the mixture as it simmers. Remove the saucepan from heat just before it reaches a boil to prevent scalding the milk.
  3. Sweeten and Serve: Remove the tea bags from the milk tea. Sweeten the royal milk tea with 1 to 2 teaspoons of sugar or more according to your preference. Stir well and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can adjust the number of tea bags based on how strong you prefer your tea.
  • Whole milk creates the richest creaminess, but you can substitute with other milk types if desired.
  • Watch the milk closely while simmering to avoid boiling over.
  • Sugar is optional; try alternatives like honey or maple syrup for different sweetness profiles.
  • This recipe serves 2 but can be scaled up easily.
