Pizza Roses are a delightful and visually stunning appetizer made by rolling crescent dough with pizza sauce, cheeses, and pepperoni to resemble blooming roses. Baked to golden perfection, these individual rose-shaped treats are perfect for parties and snack time, offering a fun twist on classic pizza flavors in a convenient, handheld form.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 8-oz. tube crescent dough

Fillings

  • 1/4 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan
  • 4 oz. large pepperoni slices, cut in half
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray a muffin tin with cooking spray to prevent sticking and set aside for baking the pizza roses.
  2. Prepare Dough: On a lightly floured surface, unroll the crescent dough and separate it into 4 rectangles. If the dough has any perforated edges, pinch them together firmly to seal and create a smooth rectangle.
  3. Cut and Fill Dough Strips: Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut each rectangle lengthwise into three strips about 1 inch wide. Spread a very thin layer of pizza sauce evenly over each dough strip. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and freshly grated Parmesan cheese over the strips. Then, place the halved pepperoni slices along the top half of each strip, slightly overlapping and allowing the rounded pepperoni edges to overhang the dough for a petal effect.
  4. Form the Roses: Fold the dough’s bottom half up over the pepperoni and cheese, then roll tightly from bottom to top to form rose shapes. Ensure the rolls are snug to keep their shape during baking.
  5. Bake: Place each rolled pizza rose into the prepared muffin tin wells. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Serve the pizza roses warm as a stunning appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • Use large pepperoni slices for best rose petal effect; smaller slices may not create the same look.
  • Pinching the dough seams firmly is crucial to prevent the strips from unfolding during baking.
  • Adjust baking time slightly depending on your oven to achieve a perfect golden crust without burning.
  • These are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven but can be reheated gently.
  • Try adding different toppings like sliced olives, bell peppers, or herbs for variations.
