Pepperoni Bread is a savory Italian-inspired treat featuring soft white bread dough filled with layers of pepperoni, provolone, and American cheese. This easy-to-make recipe involves thawing and rolling frozen bread dough, layering it with delicious deli meats and cheeses, then baking until golden brown. Perfect for serving warm with pizza or pasta sauce or enjoying at room temperature, this bread is a crowd-pleaser for parties, snacks, or lunch.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 loaves frozen white bread dough (I recommend Rhodes)
  • 1/2 pound sliced deli pepperoni
  • 1/2 pound sliced deli white American cheese
  • 1/2 pound sliced deli provolone cheese
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • Cooking spray (for greasing sheet pan and plastic wrap)
  • Flour (for dusting dough surface)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Sheet: Spray a large sheet pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Place the frozen bread loaves on the pan and cover with plastic wrap that has been lightly sprayed with cooking spray to prevent sticking and drying out.
  2. Thaw and Rise Dough: Set the covered loaves in a warm area to thaw and allow the dough to rise until approximately doubled in size. This process ensures a soft and airy bread crust.
  3. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius) to get it ready for baking the stuffed bread loaves.
  4. Roll Out Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll each loaf of dough into an 18-inch diameter circle, creating a large base for layering fillings.
  5. Add Fillings: Layer the rolled-out dough starting with a layer of sliced pepperoni, then a layer of provolone, followed by another layer of pepperoni, and finishing with a layer of white American cheese. Use roughly 1/4 pound each of provolone, pepperoni, and American cheese per loaf.
  6. Roll and Seal: Starting at one end, carefully roll the dough into a tight loaf, tucking in the sides as you go to encase the fillings. Seal the seam and the ends using a touch of water to make the dough stick and prevent cheese from leaking during baking.
  7. Prepare for Baking: Place the rolled loaves back onto the greased sheet pan with the seam side down to help keep them sealed. Brush the tops with extra virgin olive oil for a shiny, golden crust.
  8. Bake the Loaves: Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the loaves are lightly browned and cooked through. The cheese should be melted inside with a crispy crust outside.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing with a serrated knife to avoid squishing the bread. Serve warm or at room temperature. Optionally, pair with pizza or pasta sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Using frozen Rhodes white bread dough simplifies the preparation and yields great texture.
  • Thawing and allowing the dough to rise properly ensures a fluffy final bread.
  • Rolling the dough tightly and sealing with water helps contain the melted cheese and pepperoni during baking.
  • Olive oil brush on top enhances browning and flavor.
  • Serve with marinara or your preferred pizza sauce for dipping to add extra taste.
