Monterey Sausage Pie is a cheesy, savory breakfast masterpiece with a flaky pie crust filled with a mixture of sausage, cheese, and a savory egg custard. It’s hearty, flavorful, and perfect for any meal of the day.

Ingredients

1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)

1 pound breakfast sausage

1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

4 large eggs

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup milk

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 teaspoon ground mustard (optional)

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a little heat)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain excess fat and set the sausage aside to cool slightly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, ground mustard, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  4. Place the pie crust in a pie dish and layer the cooked sausage evenly on the bottom.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese over the sausage.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and cheese, ensuring it covers everything evenly.
  7. Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is lightly golden brown.
  8. Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
