This Mini Pizza Recipe for Kids is a fun and easy homemade pizza treat that can be ready in just 30 minutes. Made with a simple yeast dough, topped with classic pizza sauce, cheese, and your choice of kid-friendly toppings, these mini pizzas are perfect for family meals or parties. The dough is soft and chewy, baked to golden perfection, making it a delicious and interactive way to get kids involved in cooking.

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons dry active yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (not hot!)
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, plus extra for rubbing
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

Toppings:

  • Pizza sauce, as needed
  • Shredded cheese, as needed
  • Pepperoni, sausage, pineapple, olives, peppers, or any other preferred toppings

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425ºF (220ºC) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Activate Yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 ¼ teaspoons dry active yeast, 1 cup warm (not hot) water, and 1 teaspoon granulated sugar. Stir gently and let sit for 10 minutes until the mixture becomes creamy with small bubbles on top, indicating the yeast is active.
  3. Prepare Dough: Add 1 teaspoon salt, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms a ball. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead for 1-2 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Rest Dough: Rub a teaspoon of olive oil all over the dough ball to prevent drying. Cover with plastic wrap and let it rest in the bowl for 5 minutes to relax the gluten and make it easier to shape.
  5. Divide and Shape: Cut the dough into 8 equal pieces, forming each into a ball. On a floured surface, roll, pat, or stretch each dough ball into a mini pizza crust shape using a rolling pin or your hands.
  6. Add Toppings: Spread a layer of pizza sauce on each mini crust, sprinkle generously with shredded cheese, and add your choice of toppings such as pepperoni, sausage, pineapple, olives, or peppers.
  7. Bake the Pizzas: Place the prepared mini pizzas onto the lined baking sheets and bake in the preheated oven for 14-16 minutes. Bake until the edges are puffed and golden, and the cheese is melted and browned in spots.

Notes

  • Make sure the water is warm but not hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • Kneading the dough just for a short time helps keep the crust tender for kids.
  • You can customize toppings based on your child’s preferences or dietary restrictions.
  • Use parchment paper to simplify cleanup and prevent sticking.
  • If you want larger pizzas, adjust the dough ball size accordingly and increase baking time slightly.
