This homemade guacamole recipe is a fresh and vibrant dip that combines ripe avocados with zesty lime juice, savory garlic, and a hint of cayenne. Perfect as a snack or party appetizer, it comes together quickly and is packed with bold flavors and healthy fats.

Ingredients

Guacamole Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup red onion (diced)
  • 3 tablespoons cilantro (chopped)
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne powder
  • 2 medium Roma tomatoes (diced)
  • 3 large avocados
  • 1 large lime (juiced)

Instructions

  1. Make Garlic Paste: Place the minced garlic and 1 teaspoon of salt directly onto a cutting board. Using a large knife, run the blade over the garlic and salt repeatedly to mash them together into a smooth, paste-like mixture.
  2. Combine Base Ingredients: Transfer the garlic and salt paste to a medium mixing bowl. Add the diced red onion, chopped cilantro, cayenne powder, and diced Roma tomatoes to the bowl.
  3. Prepare Avocados: Cut each avocado in half and remove the pits. Scoop out the avocado flesh and add it to the mixture in the bowl. Immediately squeeze the juice of one large lime onto the avocado to keep it fresh and add tanginess.
  4. Mash Guacamole: Using a fork or potato masher, mash the avocados together with the other ingredients to your preferred consistency, whether chunky or smooth.
  5. Adjust Seasoning and Serve: Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Taste and add additional salt, lime juice, or cilantro if desired. Serve immediately to enjoy the freshest flavor of this creamy, flavorful guacamole.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, increase cayenne powder or add finely chopped jalapeño.
  • To keep guacamole from browning, cover tightly with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface and refrigerate.
  • Use ripe but firm avocados for the best texture and flavor.
  • This guacamole is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 day.
