This homemade pizza recipe lets you create a classic favorite from scratch with a crispy crust, melty mozzarella, and your choice of toppings. Perfect for any occasion and fully customizable.

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp sugar

1 tsp salt

2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast

1 cup warm water

2 tbsp oil

1/2 cup pizza sauce

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Toppings of your choice (pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, sausage, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add the flour, salt, and oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  5. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
  7. Transfer the rolled-out dough to a baking sheet or pizza peel.
  8. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the dough.
  9. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
  10. Add your favorite toppings.
  11. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
  12. Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use whole wheat flour for a healthier crust option.
  • Swap mozzarella for a blend of cheeses like cheddar, provolone, or Parmesan for different flavors.
  • Try a white pizza by skipping the tomato sauce and using garlic olive oil instead.
  • Add fresh herbs like basil or oregano before baking or after for extra aroma.
  • For a gluten-free option, use a gluten-free flour blend suited for pizza dough.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat pizza in a skillet or oven to keep crust crispy; avoid microwaving.
  • You can refrigerate dough up to 24 hours or freeze up to 3 months.
  • Adjust dough thickness based on preference for thin or thick crust.
