A classic homemade butter cake that is moist, tender, and rich with buttery flavor, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Add lemon zest or orange zest for a citrus twist.
  • Mix in 1/2 cup chocolate chips or chopped nuts for added texture and flavor.
  • Substitute whole milk with buttermilk for a tangier, more tender crumb.
  • Use almond extract instead of vanilla for a different aromatic note.
  • Top with powdered sugar glaze or lemon glaze after cooling.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature up to 3 days or refrigerate/freeze for longer storage.
  • Reheat slices in microwave or oven before serving.
