These Grilled Cheese Roll Ups are a fun and delicious twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, made by rolling soft white bread around melted cheddar cheese and pan-frying until golden and crispy. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, they are quick to prepare and guaranteed to please kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 8 thick slices of Soft White Bread (see notes)
  • 1.5 cups / 150g finely grated Cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp Butter, melted (or as needed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Remove the crusts from each slice of bread carefully, then flatten each slice using a rolling pin to create a thin, even base for rolling.
  2. Add Cheese: Sprinkle a pinch of finely grated cheddar cheese onto each flattened bread slice, leaving a small strip at one end clear for sealing with butter.
  3. Roll Up: Starting from the end with cheese, tightly but carefully roll each slice into a cylinder. Brush the exposed edge with melted butter to help seal the roll-up.
  4. Butter the Rolls: Place each roll seam-side-down on a plate and brush all over with melted butter for a golden, crispy exterior.
  5. Fry the Roll-Ups: Heat a dry skillet over low to medium heat. Add the roll-ups seam-side-down and fry gently until golden brown on all sides and the cheese is starting to ooze out, turning frequently with tongs. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding the pan.

Notes

  • Use thick slices of soft white bread for best texture and ease of rolling.
  • Flattening the bread helps prevent cracking and ensures even cooking.
  • Cook on low-medium heat to ensure the cheese melts without burning the bread.
  • Serve immediately for best taste and texture.
