Indulge in the rich and fudgy goodness of these Frosted Coffee Brownies, where the flavors of coffee and chocolate collide in a decadent dessert topped with a creamy coffee frosting.

Ingredients

For the Brownies:

  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp coffee extract or 1 tbsp instant coffee
  • ⅓ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp baking powder

For the Coffee Frosting:

  • 1½ tsp instant coffee granules
  • 24 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare an 8-inch square baking dish by spraying it with non-stick spray or lining it with parchment paper and spraying it for extra ease.
  2. Melt the Butter: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter in the microwave and let it cool slightly.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and coffee extract (or dissolved instant coffee). Stir until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Bake: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with only a few moist crumbs. Allow the brownies to cool completely before frosting.
  6. Prepare the Coffee Frosting: Dissolve the instant coffee granules in 2 tbsp of heavy cream and set aside. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well. Slowly incorporate the coffee cream mixture, adding an additional tablespoon of cream at a time until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
  7. Frost and Serve: Spread the coffee frosting over the cooled brownies. Slice into squares and enjoy your decadent coffee-infused treat!

Notes

  • Coffee Intensity: Adjust the amount of coffee extract or instant coffee to your preference for a stronger or milder coffee flavor.
  • Texture Tip: For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake them and let them set as they cool.
  • Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
