Ingredients

Cake Ingredients

  • Red Velvet Cake Mix – 1 box
  • Eggs – 2
  • Vegetable Oil – 1/2 cup
  • Water – 1 1/4 cups

Frosting & Decoration

  • Pink Frosting – enough to pipe and spread on cupcakes
  • Sprinkles – optional, to decorate

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Muffin Tins: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two muffin tins with cupcake liners to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal after baking.
  2. Mix the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the red velvet cake mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Using a hand mixer on medium speed, beat the mixture for about two minutes until smooth and well combined.
  3. Fill Cupcake Liners: Spoon approximately 3 tablespoons of the prepared batter into each cupcake liner, filling them evenly for uniform cupcakes.
  4. Bake the Cupcakes: Place the muffin tins in the preheated oven and bake for around 16 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of a cupcake; it should come out mostly clean. Once done, remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow them to cool completely.
  5. Arrange Cupcakes: Once cooled, arrange the cupcakes on a flat surface in a loose heart shape. The arrangement doesn’t need to be perfect because the frosting will define the heart shape.
  6. Pipe the Frosting: Fill a disposable pastry bag with pink frosting. Cut approximately 3/4 inch off the tip of the bag, then pipe a heart outline over the arranged cupcakes, connecting them visually into one cohesive heart shape.
  7. Fill and Smooth Frosting: Fill in the piped heart shape with additional frosting and spread it evenly with a knife or spatula to create a smooth finish over the cupcakes.
  8. Add Sprinkles: Optionally, decorate the frosted heart cake with sprinkles to add extra festive color and texture.

Notes

  • Make sure the cupcakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • You can use store-bought or homemade pink frosting depending on your preference.
  • The heart shape is flexible; just arrange the cupcakes as close to a heart as possible.
  • Serve immediately after decorating or keep refrigerated if preparing in advance.
  • Use disposable pastry bags or a piping bag for easy frosting application and cleanup.
