This Easy Homemade Italian Soda recipe is a refreshing and light beverage perfect for warm weather. Simple to make and customizable with your favorite flavored syrups and optional cream, this sparkling drink offers a delightful burst of flavor with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Crushed ice – enough to fill glass 2/3 of the way full
  • Carbonated water – 8 to 12 ounces (enough to fill the glass, leaving about 1 inch at the top)
  • Flavored simple syrup – 2 to 4 tablespoons (1 to 2 ounces), depending on sweetness preference

Optional Ingredients

  • Heavy cream or half and half – 1 to 2 tablespoons (for an Italian cream soda variation)

Instructions

  1. Add Ice: Fill a 16-ounce glass with crushed ice until it is about two-thirds full to chill the drink properly.
  2. Pour Carbonated Water: Pour carbonated water into the glass until it is nearly full, leaving about an inch of space at the top for syrup and cream.
  3. Add Syrup: Add 2 to 4 tablespoons of your preferred flavored simple syrup to the glass, adjusting the amount based on your desired sweetness.
  4. Optional Cream: If desired, add 1 to 2 tablespoons of heavy cream or half and half to transform the drink into a creamy Italian cream soda, also known as a “French soda.”
  5. Mix: Stir the drink gently to combine all flavors and enjoy immediately while cold and bubbly.

Notes

  • You can customize the flavor by using different flavored simple syrups such as vanilla, raspberry, or cherry.
  • For a vegan version, omit the cream or use a plant-based alternative.
  • Adjust the amount of syrup to control sweetness as preferred.
  • Serve immediately to enjoy the full carbonation and freshness of the soda.
  • Use crushed ice for a more refreshing and even chilling experience.
