Ingredients

Main Ingredients:

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Preheat the Oven – Set oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Step 2: Cook the Beef and Aromatics – Brown ground beef with onion and garlic in a skillet.
  3. Step 3: Add the Cabbage – Cook cabbage with beef mixture until wilted.
  4. Step 4: Mix in Tomatoes, Rice, and Seasoning – Combine tomatoes, rice, and seasonings with cabbage mixture.
  5. Step 5: Assemble the Casserole – Transfer mixture to baking dish, pour beef broth over, and top with cheese.
  6. Step 6: Bake – Cover with foil, bake for 30 minutes, then uncover and bake until cheese is golden.

Notes

  • Cabbage Shrinkage: Cabbage cooks down significantly.
  • Rice Prep: Recipe works best with pre-cooked rice.
  • Broth Tip: Add extra broth for a saucier dish.
  • Make-Ahead: Casserole can be assembled a day ahead.
