Ready in just 40 minutes, these sliders capture the classic flavors of a Philly cheesesteak in bite-sized form.

Ingredients

Vegetables

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced and halved
  • 1 yellow onion, quartered and sliced

Meat

  • 14 oz package shaved steak
  • 1 tsp steak seasoning

Dairy

  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tbsp butter

Bread

  • 12 slider rolls

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit to get it ready for baking the assembled sliders.
  2. Prepare Vegetables: Chop the onion and green bell pepper into slices as described to ensure even cooking and flavor distribution.
  3. Sauté Vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the onion and bell pepper for 5-7 minutes until slightly softened, then remove them from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Cook Steak: In the same skillet, add the shaved steak and sprinkle with steak seasoning. Cook until the meat is browned, stirring frequently to break it up and ensure even cooking.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Return the sautéed peppers and onions to the skillet with the steak. Cook together for an additional 3-5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  6. Prepare Slider Rolls: Slice the slider rolls in half horizontally but keep the halves intact for easy assembly.
  7. Assemble Sliders – Bottom Layers: Place the bottom halves of the slider rolls into a casserole dish. Spread a little over half of the steak and vegetable mixture evenly over the rolls. Then lay 4 slices of provolone cheese on top.
  8. Assemble Sliders – Top Layers: Spread the remaining steak mixture over the cheese, then top with broken pieces of provolone cheese, tucking some pieces under the meat for extra cheesiness.
  9. Close Sliders: Place the top halves of the slider rolls over the layered filling to close each slider.
  10. Butter and Bake: Melt the butter and brush it evenly over the tops of the slider rolls. Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven.
  11. Bake Until Melty: Bake the sliders for 10-15 minutes until the cheese is melted and the tops of the rolls turn golden and slightly crispy.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add sliced jalapeños to the vegetable sauté or mix in some hot sauce with the steak seasoning.
  • Use provolone cheese for a classic Philly flavor, but feel free to substitute with mozzarella or American cheese if preferred.
  • Make sure not to overfill the sliders to prevent them from becoming difficult to eat.
  • If preferred, you can add mushrooms to the sautéed vegetables for added earthiness.
  • These sliders are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven for a few minutes to restore the melty cheese texture.
