This comforting Crock Pot Pierogi and Kielbasa Casserole blends tender frozen pierogies, smoky Polska kielbasa, creamy cheddar cheese, and smooth cream cheese to create a hearty, easy-to-make meal. Perfect for busy days, this slow cooker recipe requires minimal prep and delivers rich, cheesy, and satisfying flavors, topped with fresh green onions for a burst of color and freshness.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 cups chicken broth (divided use)
  • 2 (16 ounce) bags frozen pierogies (cheddar or onion, preferably Mrs. T’s brand)
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided use)
  • 1 pound smoked Polska kielbasa
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • Sliced green onions, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine ingredients in crock pot: In a 4-6 quart crock pot, add three cups of chicken broth, frozen pierogies, shredded cheddar cheese, and sliced kielbasa. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cook on high for 3-4 hours or low for 6 hours until pierogies are tender and flavors meld.
  2. Prepare cream cheese mixture: About 30 minutes before serving, warm the softened cream cheese with the remaining one cup of chicken broth in the microwave or on the stove until smooth. Whisk until fully combined and creamy.
  3. Add cream cheese mixture and finish cooking: Pour the warm cream cheese mixture into the crock pot and stir well to combine everything evenly. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheddar cheese on top, cover, and cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to melt cheese and warm through.
  4. Serve: Spoon the casserole onto plates, topping each serving with sliced green onions if desired, and enjoy warm.

Notes

  • You can use either cheddar or onion pierogies depending on your flavor preference.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to your taste, especially since kielbasa can be salty.
  • Softening the cream cheese to room temperature before mixing helps achieve a smooth sauce.
  • For extra veggies, consider adding sautéed onions or peppers at the start with kielbasa.
  • This casserole reheats well and can be stored covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
