This cozy Crock Pot Mulled Cider recipe fills your home with warm, spiced aromas perfect for chilly days. Made with apple cider, fragrant spices, and a touch of brown sugar, it’s easy to prepare and ideal for serving guests or enjoying a comforting solo cup.

Ingredients

Mulled Cider Ingredients

  • 64 ounces apple cider (or unfiltered apple juice)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar (optional)
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 whole star anise
  • 2 whole cloves
  • 1 orange (sliced)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all ingredients—apple cider, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves, and sliced orange to ensure everything is ready for the cooking process.
  2. Add to Crock Pot: Place all ingredients into a 3-quart slow cooker (Crock Pot) and stir gently to combine the flavors evenly.
  3. Set and Warm: Set the slow cooker to the low setting and allow the mixture to warm for 2 hours, letting the spices infuse the cider thoroughly.
  4. Discard Spices: Before serving, remove all the whole spices and discard them to avoid overly strong flavors or choking hazards.
  5. Serve Warm: Ladle the mulled cider into mugs. Optionally, garnish each mug with a fresh orange slice for added aroma and presentation.
  6. Alternative Stove Top Method: Place all ingredients in a stock pot over medium to medium-low heat on the stove. Warm for about 30 minutes or until fragrant and heated through. Remove spices and serve warm as above.

Notes

  • Using unfiltered apple juice is a great substitute if apple cider is unavailable.
  • Brown sugar is optional; adjust sweetness to taste.
  • Remove spices before serving to avoid overpowering bitterness.
  • Can be kept warm in the slow cooker on low for up to 2 hours without overcooking.
  • For a non-alcoholic option, use only apple cider; for an adult twist, add a splash of spiced rum or bourbon just before serving.
