Crispy and flavorful Brussels Sprout Chips baked to perfection with a spicy kick from chili powder and cayenne pepper. These healthy vegetable chips make a perfect crunchy snack or side dish, offering a delicious way to enjoy Brussels sprouts.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Brussels sprouts
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) to prepare for slow baking the Brussels sprout leaves until crispy.
  2. Prepare Brussels Sprouts: Trim the ends off each Brussels sprout and carefully peel off all the outer leaves to separate them. This step can be time-intensive but is necessary for achieving crispy chips.
  3. Season: Place the peeled Brussels sprout leaves into a large mixing bowl. Drizzle olive oil over them and sprinkle with chili powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Toss well to ensure all leaves are evenly coated with oil and spices.
  4. Arrange and Bake: Spread the seasoned leaves out in a single layer on a baking sheet to avoid overcrowding. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, until the leaves turn golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on them to prevent burning.
  5. Serve: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the chips to cool slightly. Note that the leaves will shrink significantly during baking, resulting in a smaller quantity than the original whole sprout volume. Enjoy your crunchy Brussels sprout chips as a healthy snack or side.

Notes

  • Adjust the cayenne pepper quantity to control the spice level.
  • Make sure to spread leaves in a single layer to bake evenly and become crispy.
  • Use fresh Brussels sprouts for the best texture and flavor.
  • You can experiment with other spices like smoked paprika or garlic powder for different flavors.
  • Store leftover chips in an airtight container for up to 2 days; they are best eaten fresh.
