These Crescent Pizza Stockings are a festive and fun appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings. Made with flaky crescent dough, topped with savory pizza sauce, melted mozzarella cheese, and fresh basil, these bite-sized treats combine the convenience of refrigerated dough with classic Italian flavors. Ready in just 30 minutes, they’re an easy and adorable way to celebrate the season.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Original Crescent Dough Sheet
  • 1/4 cup pizza sauce
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (1 oz)
  • 2 tablespoons torn basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare dough: Heat oven to 350°F. Unroll the crescent dough sheet onto a clean work surface and press it into a flat 13×8-inch rectangle to smooth out the seams. Using a 2 1/2- to 3-inch stocking-shaped cookie cutter, cut out 12 stocking shapes from the dough. Carefully transfer the cutouts onto an ungreased cookie sheet.
  2. Initial bake: Bake the dough stockings in the preheated oven for 8 minutes. This step partially cooks the dough to ensure a crisp and golden base before adding toppings.
  3. Add toppings and finish baking: Remove the partially baked stockings from the oven. Spoon pizza sauce onto each stocking, leaving a 1/4-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle mozzarella cheese on the top portion of each stocking. Return the tray to the oven and bake for 4 to 6 minutes more, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  4. Garnish and serve: Transfer the finished pizza stockings to a serving tray. Sprinkle torn fresh basil leaves over the top for a fresh, aromatic finish. Serve warm as a festive appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • For a spicier twist, add a pinch of red pepper flakes on top of the sauce before adding cheese.
  • Try other shredded cheeses like cheddar or provolone for a different flavor profile.
  • Make sure to use fresh basil for the best taste and vibrant color.
  • Crescent dough can be delicate; handle the cutouts gently when transferring to the baking sheet.
  • These can be made ahead and reheated briefly in the oven before serving.
