This Creamy Garlic Chicken recipe features tender chicken cutlets cooked in a luscious garlic-infused cream sauce. Perfect for a quick but elegant weeknight dinner, it combines sautéed chicken with a rich sauce made from butter, garlic, chicken broth, lemon juice, and heavy cream, garnished with fresh parsley.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • Flour, for dredging
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter, divided

Sauce

  • 1 whole head garlic, cloves peeled
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or stock
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
  • Parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken cutlets: Cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise to create 4 smaller cutlets. Generously season each cutlet with salt and pepper, then dredge them in flour, coating evenly.
  2. Sauté the chicken: Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the chicken cutlets and sauté for 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove chicken from the pan and set aside.
  3. Cook the garlic: Reduce heat to medium or medium-low if using a cast iron skillet. Add the remaining tablespoon of butter to the pan and let it melt. Add the peeled garlic cloves and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic is lightly browned on the outside.
  4. Deglaze and reduce: Pour in the chicken broth, lemon juice, and sprinkle in the garlic powder. Let the mixture bubble and simmer for about 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid is noticeably reduced.
  5. Finish the sauce and chicken: Stir in the heavy cream, then return the chicken cutlets to the pan. Allow them to cook together for an additional 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens and the chicken is fully cooked. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • For best flavor, use fresh garlic cloves peeled from the whole head.
  • Can be served with rice, mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables.
  • Cooking times may vary slightly depending on skillet size and stove heat distribution.
  • To reduce calories, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or a lighter cream alternative.
  • Ensure chicken is cooked through by checking internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
