This moist and delicious Chocolate Chip Loaf Cake combines a tender crumb with rich chocolate chips for a perfect treat. Easy to make and ideal for any occasion, it’s a classic loaf cake baked to golden perfection with a sweet vanilla-infused batter.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups plain flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter (at room temperature)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Add-ins

  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan thoroughly, then line the bottom with parchment paper and lightly grease the paper as well to prevent sticking.
  2. Sift Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, sift together the plain flour, baking powder, and salt. Set this mixture aside for later use.
  3. Mix Vanilla and Milk: In a separate small container, whisk the vanilla extract into the whole milk and set aside.
  4. Cream Butter and Sugar: Using a large mixing bowl, cream the room temperature butter and sugar together until the mixture turns pale and fluffy. This usually takes a few minutes and incorporates air for a light texture.
  5. Add Eggs: Slowly add the eggs one at a time into the creamed butter and sugar mixture, mixing well after each addition to fully incorporate them.
  6. Combine Flour and Milk: Gently fold in half of the sifted flour mixture into the wet ingredients. After that, add all of the vanilla-milk mixture and continue mixing. Then add the remaining flour and stir until just combined to avoid overmixing.
  7. Add Chocolate Chips: Fold in the chocolate chips evenly throughout the batter ensuring they are well distributed.
  8. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, smoothing the top out evenly. Place it in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 55 minutes. Test doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with just a few crumbs attached.
  9. Cool: Remove the loaf from the oven and place on a wire rack to cool for a few minutes. After approximately 5 minutes, remove the cake from the pan and allow it to cool further on the rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Make sure the butter is at room temperature to cream properly and create a fluffy batter.
  • Do not overmix the batter once the flour is added to keep the cake tender.
  • Lining the pan with parchment paper helps to easily remove the loaf without sticking.
  • Check the cake around 45 minutes to avoid overbaking, as ovens vary in temperature.
  • This cake can be served slightly warm or at room temperature.
