Ingredients

Potatoes:

  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, thinly sliced

Sauce:

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Cheese:

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Heat until warm.
  3. Layer the potatoes: Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the cream mixture over them.
  4. Add cheese: Sprinkle half of the cheddar and Parmesan cheese over the potatoes. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream, and cheese.
  5. Bake: Dot the top with butter, cover with foil, and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
