Cajun Cabbage Jambalaya with Ground Beef and Sausage is a hearty, spicy dish packed with bold Cajun flavors, smoky sausage, rich ground beef, and tender cabbage, offering a healthier twist on traditional jambalaya.

Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1 lb smoked sausage, sliced

1 medium head of cabbage, shredded

1 medium onion, chopped

1 bell pepper, chopped

2 celery stalks, chopped

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes

1 (6 oz) can tomato paste

1 cup chicken broth

2 tbsp Cajun seasoning

1 tsp thyme

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp olive oil

Salt to taste

Fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef and sausage to the skillet, breaking up the beef into small crumbles as it cooks. Cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Remove excess grease if needed.
  3. Add the chopped onion, bell pepper, celery, and garlic to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until the vegetables are softened.
  4. Stir in the Cajun seasoning, thyme, paprika, cayenne, black pepper, and salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes to allow the spices to bloom.
  5. Add the shredded cabbage to the pan and stir well to combine with the other ingredients.
  6. Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and chicken broth. Stir everything together, ensuring the cabbage is coated with the sauce.
  7. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have melded together.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
