Ingredients

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

Main Ingredients

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until smooth and lump-free. Add the beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk well to combine and set aside.
  2. Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook for 2-3 minutes until just tender. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop cooking. Drizzle the noodles with 1 teaspoon of sesame oil and toss to prevent sticking.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot. Season the sirloin strips with kosher salt and black pepper. Add them to the skillet in a single layer, cooking without stirring for about 3 minutes to develop a good sear. Stir and continue cooking for 2 more minutes until the steak is cooked through. Remove the steak from the skillet and drain any excess grease.
  4. Steam the broccoli: Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet and toss in the broccoli florets. Pour in 1/2 cup of water and cover the skillet. Allow the broccoli to steam for about 2 minutes until bright green and fork-tender but still crisp. Remove the cover.
  5. Combine ingredients: Return the cooked steak to the skillet along with the drained ramen noodles.
  6. Add the sauce and finish cooking: Stir the prepared sauce and pour it over the ingredients in the skillet. Using tongs, gently toss and stir everything together as the sauce thickens and heats through, about 1-2 minutes.
  7. Serve: Immediately plate the stir fry and garnish with sesame seeds for a nutty crunch and extra flavor.

Notes

  • For extra vegetables, consider adding sliced bell peppers or carrots when steaming the broccoli.
  • To reduce sugar, substitute honey with a sugar-free alternative or reduce the amount.
  • Make sure not to overcook the broccoli to maintain a fresh, crisp texture.
  • Using low-sodium soy sauce helps control the salt content in this dish.
  • The steak can be substituted with chicken or tofu for different protein options.
