Easily prepared in a blender and strained, these shots can be enjoyed cold or warmed as a soothing tea.

Ingredients

Juice and Liquid Ingredients

  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice (about 1 large lemon, 60ml)
  • ⅓ cup orange juice (80ml)
  • 1 Tbsp honey (15ml)
  • 1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (15ml)
  • ½ cup water or coconut water (120ml)

Spices and Flavorings

  • 3 inches fresh ginger root, roughly chopped (about 8cm) or 2-3 tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground turmeric
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • Dash of black pepper
  • Dash of cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ginger: Roughly chop the fresh ginger root; there is no need to peel it. This will add a fresh and zesty kick to your immunity shot.
  2. Blend ingredients: Add the chopped ginger, lemon juice, orange juice, honey, apple cider vinegar, ground turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and water (or coconut water) to a blender. Blend everything together for about 30 seconds until smooth.
  3. Strain the mixture: Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer or nut milk bag into a measuring cup or bowl. Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to press down on the ginger pulp to extract as much liquid as possible. Discard the pulp afterwards.
  4. Portion and store: Divide the strained juice into 2-ounce servings, ideally using small shot glasses. Store the shots in the refrigerator or freeze them in ice cube trays to enjoy throughout the week.
  5. Serve and enjoy: Drink the shots cold as is, or warm them by adding hot water to enjoy as a comforting tea.

Notes

  • You can use ground ginger as an alternative if fresh ginger is unavailable, but fresh ginger offers the best flavor and benefits.
  • Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper according to your heat preference or skip it if you prefer a milder shot.
  • Honey can be substituted with maple syrup or agave nectar for a vegan option.
  • Storing the shots in ice cube trays allows for quick thawing and portion control.
  • Adding warm water transforms the shot into a soothing tea perfect for cold days or sore throats.
