These 3 ingredient Butter Cookies are a simple, classic treat with a rich buttery flavor and a light, crisp texture, perfect for any occasion and easy to make from scratch.

Ingredients

1 cup butter, softened

½ cup sugar

2 cups cake flour or all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Beat the butter and sugar together for about 5 minutes until pale, light, and fluffy.
  2. Sift the flour into the butter mixture and gently mix until a soft dough forms.
  3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll out to about ¼ inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes.
  5. Place cutouts on a baking sheet and bake at 320°F (160°C) for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown around the edges.
  6. Remove from oven and let cookies cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Use unsalted butter softened but not melted for best flavor and texture.
  • All-purpose flour can substitute cake flour if unavailable.
  • Chilling the dough makes it easier to roll and cut without sticking.
  • Adjust baking time if rolling dough thinner or thicker than ¼ inch.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature up to one week or freeze for longer storage.
